Unbeknownst to me, my journey to owning my Store began many years ago, when my Mom bought me a cat for my high school graduation present. Before I ever got her I had already picked out a name for her: Charlie. I had a very special young nephew who liked for me to play “construction crew” with him. We would play with his trucks and tractors, and his guy was always named Mack or Joe, and mine was always named Charlie. So there it was, she was going to be my Charlie. Even if that meant for the rest of her life my Dad would pet her while shaking his head and say “Charlie cat, but you’re a girl.” Little did I know then the impact that little cat would have on me and what it would eventually lead to. 

Charlie was a 10 pound Calico, who stole my heart. Charlie and I shared the next 18 years of our lives together. She was my companion, my support, my best friend. We went through everything in life as a team…me and her….college, apartments, jobs, heartaches and triumphs alike. I still tell my Mom that she was the best gift she ever gave me, and I mean it. I called her my ray of sunshine because no matter what was happening in my life, she always made me happy. That was her gift.

When Charlie was around 14 years old I found out that the “premium” food I had been feeding her since she was a baby was actually killing her. She had inflammatory bowel disease and could no longer process her food. What I learned was that just because a pet food was expensive and sold only at a vet’s office or pet supply store did not mean that it was good for your pet. Actually, what I learned was quite the contrary. And so, my inspiration…

Today I have three dogs: Spike (the pack leader); Sade (self designated baby of the family); and Sabre (my very own surfer dude!). Spike and Sabre are Shiba Inus, and are brother and sister from different litters. Sade is a Miniature Pinscher/Rat Terrier mix, who thinks she is a Doberman Pinscher. Also a part of our family is my best friend’s cat Rio.  She is a 15 pound Siamese/Calico mix, who we rescued from a shelter, and who when she comes to visit us thinks she is a dog and fits right into our pack. They, like Charlie, are a part of my family…they are my babies, my world! Like you, my animals are my companions in every part of my life. And that is the reason The Pet Factor exists. Our goal is to provide you with healthy food for your pet and to hopefully help you become aware of the benefits a healthy diet can have for your pet and, in turn, for your family! Along with lots of fun stuff too!
